The Ultimate South Boston Weekend Guide
There's just something about a summer weekend in South Boston. Whether you're spending the day by the water, or wandering the neighboorhood after one too many beers, you are bound to have a good time. If you’re looking for a few ideas, here is our go-to guide to have a packed, funfilled weekend!
Day 1, Morning
The day begins at Galley Diner, a classic South Boston spot that feels exactly like what you want a neighborhood diner to feel like, small and welcoming and timeless. The portions are huge and the food is absolutely delicious. Their grilled ham & cheese is a must!
Important note: They don’t take reservations, so going early is your best move unless you enjoy strategic waiting as a morning activity.
Day 1, Late Morning
After breakfast, make your way to Castle Island for one of the best walks in the city. The path follows the water with views the entire way, making it an easy and scenic place to start the day. It’s perfect for a relaxed walk or for finding a spot to sit and read for a bit. You could also tour Fort Independence if you wanted.
There’s a large free parking lot on-site, along with street parking nearby (just be sure to read the signs, Southie takes parking rules seriously). Bring sunscreen as there’s very little shade, and it’s easy to lose track of how much sun you’re getting. The area is also dog-friendly, so it’s a great place to bring them along if you have a furry friend!

Day 1, Mid-day/Lunch
While you’re there, plan to grab lunch. Sullivan’s is a seasonal counter-service spot that’s been a South Boston staple for years and is about as classic as it gets for a summer stop. The menu is simple and exactly what you will be craving by the time lunch rolls around. We highly recommend grabbing a lobster roll or some fried seafood!
A quick heads up: the line can get long around lunchtime, especially on nice days, but it tends to move quickly so the wait is usually manageable.

Day 1, Afternoon
From Sullivan’s, it’s an easy walk or Uber ride to the nearby beaches. Both Carson Beach and M Street Beach are great options. You can also choose to drive and leave your car in the lot and take a short 10 to 20 minute walk over. Once you’re there, it’s easy to lose track of time. Catch some sun or join a casual game of beach volleyball. It’s a relaxed, social spot with plenty of space to do your own thing or meet new people!
Day 1, Late Afternoon/Early Evening
After a little too much sun, it’s time to head into the busier part of South Boston. We may be biased but a favorite spot is our very own Castle Island Brewing Co., which is a great place to reset after a long day. It’s easiest to get there by Uber or car (since you are coming from the other side), and you’ll usually find street parking or a nearby lot without too much trouble (again just be wary of the street signs). Grab a beer and settle in for an early dinner! The food from Bardo’s Pizza is consistently a 10/10. The South Shore bar-style pizza is a standout, and they also offer a gluten-free crust if you prefer. The CBK wrap is another go-to, and there are also lighter options like salads if you want something a bit more balanced. There are also non-alcoholic options available, so it works for everyone in your group. After a couple of drinks (or one too many) you can wrap up the night at Park City, which is conveniently right across the street and makes for an easy final stop.
DAy 1, Evening
Park City gives off the best summer vibe. There are yard games, food and drinks, and awesome live music that makes for a perfect night out.
It can get busy, especially on weekends, so it helps to head over around 6 or 7 in the evening if you can. That timing usually lets you grab a good spot and settle in before it fills up. It’s an easy, fun way to wind down after a full day.
DAY 2, Morning
Start the day at Brick Street Bagels, one of the most popular bagel spots in the area. It’s a grab-and-go kind of place, but well worth making your first stop of the morning.
Lines tend to build quickly, especially on weekends, so getting there early makes a big difference. If they have it, the rosemary sea salt bagel is a must-try and easily one of the best options on the menu.

Day 2, Mid-morning
A short walk along the harbor is one of the easiest ways to start off the day. In the morning, the area is usually quiet, with just a few people out, so it’s perfect way to eat your bagel and sip your coffee.
A quick Uber brings you into the Seaport area which is one of my favorite areas to go during the summer time. It’s also one of the best shopping areas in the city, with a mix of well-known brands, local boutiques, and seasonal pop-ups all within a walkable layout. You can easily spend hours browsing without needing a set plan! Some honorable mentions are below:

DAy 2, mid-day/lunch
Since you're in New England, I feel like there's an unwritten rule that you have to eat seafood at least once a day, and The Barking Crab is a great spot for that! It's been around forever and is one of those places locals and visitors both love. The vibe is fun and the seafood is solid. I highly recommend trying the hot crab dip, it’s very much life changing.

Day 2, Afternoon
If you're looking for a laid-back place to spend an afternoon, The Grove is worth checking out. This brand new spot is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the nice weather. It just opened at the beginning of June and is already a hit with the locals. They usually have live music playing, and it's a great place to grab a drink and hang out for a bit.

Day 2, Evening
Capo is a great spot for a night out, especially on Sundays when they bring in live music for “Sinatra Sundays.” It does get busy though, so maybe don’t just show up and hope for the best, definately make a reservation a few weeks in advance. The food’s really good too, especially the pasta, which kind of steals the show.

Day 2, Late-Night
For a final stop, head to J.P. Licks for a classic New England ice cream run. The Ice cream is good, and it’s an easy, low-key stop before calling it a weekend well spent. You can even walk around the neighboorhood and wind down if it’s not too hot out.
